Speech training course

The beginning of the year is always a time for good intentions and setting new resolutions - and for training, of course. A recent workshop on speech training in Florence provided a good opportunity to enact one such resolution.

For interpreters the voice is the most precious instrument and good speaking and a correct use of the voice is therefore essential. Here are some tips that we observe in looking after our voices:

  1. Do you enjoy drinking coffee during conferences or meetings? Coffee dehydrates the voice so its far healthier for your voice to drink water or herbal tea.
  2. Try to avoid any kind of drops or pastilles containing agents that have agents that dry the voice (such as menthol or eucalyptus).
  3. Be sure to always warm up our voice. Yawning can be a useful first step and can help to relax your vocal cords.
  4. If your throat already feels sore, don't clear your throat, but try to cough softly and carefully.

We hope these simple basics will help you to keep your voice healthy.
